May 26, 2010 By: Linette Daniels Category: For Teachers, Running A Childcare Business

When you think of creating a child-centered childcare, the image of children running out of control springs to mind.   But in truth, children are happiest when they see adults as on their side wanting the kids to have fun.  If they can have fun but do so inside the rules of your program, they will look forward to being with you each day.

I realize that creating a child-centered environment is a decision you may or may not have been a part of making but way too often I see an attitude that treat children as captives or regards them as nuisances rather than valuing them and seeking to make their time with you fun and enjoyable for them and for you.

If you don’t know where your money is going, in this economy you will be sure to lose it!!!

Whether you’re starting a new childcare business or running an existing childcare program, it’s easy to find yourself bogged down in day-to-day problems and forget the bigger picture.  But, successful businesses maintain an ongoing system to create and manage budgets, prepare and review business plans and regularly monitor business performance.

Even from the early days of envisioning your childcare, it’s essential to plan and tightly manage its financial performance.  Then once your business is operational, creating a budgeting process is the most effective way to keep your childcare- and its finances – on track. Structured planning will make all the difference to the growth of your business because it will enable you to concentrate resources on improving profits and reducing costs.

The key benefit of business planning is that it allows you to:

 1) to make ongoing improvements and anticipate problems
 2) make decisions based on sound financial information
 3) have clarity and focus about your business
 3) have greater confidence in the decisions you make
