I agree that parents should tell their children they are sorry. I had to do that when mine were in elementary school. I remeber chestizing my son one morning before school,went to work and I felt so bad because it was my fault so I left work and went to my childs school and talked with him and apologized. He was so excited.

Hi Nicki,

Whew! I’m sure glad I am not the only one who feels the voicemail was inappropriate. I do realize that some parents are difficult and laxed but I don’t think a school voicemail is the place to express these feelings.

And you are so right, what about US great parents? I would be hottt if I called my child’s school and heard that. I wonder why the school system allows them to keep it.

I was so surprised that I had to share it to see how others feel.

WOW. This is disturbing to me. What is the message this type of sarcasm sends to children. This is not the way to handle conflict. Both parties should be seeking resolution and not drawing a greater divide. How will any meaningful dialogue take place between parents and educators after this?

What about those parents who are involved in their child’s education and taking responsibility for their children? I would be insulted if I called my child’s school and this was the message.

I don’t see the humor in it!

BT we have to tell about our Vision …MADMARTIALARTISTS World Tour to END-money/health/planet-POVERTY …this is my vision and to have you on stage with me one day INSPIRING YOUTH …to be all they CAN BE. 2. Deare Linette, I have 2 amazing Kids of my own (see them on YOUTUBE.COM/TARLEYJACK ….LOL Promote, Promote, we haven’t done that wonderful thing you have of fostering, BUT over my last 3 decades, I have taught and (we can ALL do this, in everyday meetings) purposely taught, befriended, inspirired 1000′s of Kids with the Martial Arts ….a great joy is hearing from them, some after many years… FB is great for this, I’ll get a message from a student who’s says I said something to them and it gave them purpose !! Many I trained or saw at tournaments years ago say… hey sensei you saw at this and now I’m a Black belt or I won this. Wow – this really blows my mind that they would put this kind of message on there. It is kind of funny because so much of it is true but to assume that all parents don’t want their kids to be accountable is insulting.

I have a very challenging teenager and she skips school and gets in trouble and when she does they call me and ask me what am going to do about it. I tell them that she is the one that needs to be accountable and she needs to take the punishment from the school, not from me.

The schools can’t hold them accountable (not in Canada anyway) and there’s very little that they can do about it. I WISH they would fail her for missing classes. I WISH that there would be more they can do when she is being troublesome – other than suspending her and giving her a day to hang out at the mall.

The trouble is that there’s very little anyone can do to make kids be accountable these days. And yes, that irks me!
